CARROLLTON TEXAS:
Carrollton is unique, as it is located in three counties, Dallas, Denton, and Collin counties. It was firstestablished when the land grants provided by the government of Mexico and , later, the Republic of Texas brought white settlers to Carrollton to claim land now known as North Central Texas.
It now has an estimated population of 122,700. In 2006 it was named as one of the top 100 places to live by “Relocate America” and the 19th best by Money magazine. In 2008 Money magazine named the city as the 15th best place to live in the U.S. and the residents are known as the most friendly and hospitable people found anywhere. Carrollton’s first school opened in 1856, the Dallas and Wichita railroad came to Carrollton in 1881 and a year later the local newspaper noted they had one steam grist mill, four cotton gins, two churches and schools and a population of 500. They had their first bank in 1902 and a volunteer fire department and Chamber of Commerce by 1921. The Texas Inter-Urban railway connected Carrollton and Dallas in 1924, making it unique in the area with three separate rail lines, which made it a powerful city for growth through the 1950s. The city was a major processor and shipper of grain and cotton by 1935.
Population grew to over 40,000 in the 1970s and continued to grow to its estimated growth of over 122,000 today.
